It’s been an icy, snowy start to 2018, and we’ve all got a little case of cabin fever. Since road conditions are still iffy, we thought we’d do things a little differently for the Friday Five this week. Instead of getting out on those icy roads, try these five fun activities you can do at home this weekend. As always, we wish you a safe, warm weekend, and a very happy and prosperous new year!
Host a block party.
This is a great opportunity to get to know your neighbors if you don’t already. Ask each neighbor to bring a food or beverage item they already have and pool your resources for a truly fun party. Whip up a few hot toddies for the adults, and if you still have a good amount of snow around, have the kids make snow cream for a special treat. Play board games, have a snowball fight or a snowman building contest, roast marshmallows over an outdoor firepit, or just play some music and chat. It’s the perfect way to create fun memories.
Have an indoor campout.
Set up tents in the living room or make blanket forts. Turn off the overhead lights and break out the flashlights. Pop some stovetop popcorn and make microwave s’mores. Those Christmas lights you’ve been meaning to take down will make you feel like you’re sleeping under the stars. Bonus points if your Christmas tree is still up! Sit around a makeshift campfire (using a candle, flashlight, or lantern) and tell ghost stories or have a fun movie marathon.
Complete a home improvement project.
Is there a project you’ve been meaning to tackle, but you just haven’t had the time or motivation? Being stuck at home makes for the perfect opportunity to get it done! Need some ideas? In less than a day, you can either install some shelves; put away Christmas decorations; build a bookshelf; reorganize the kitchen; clean out the attic; refinish a coffee table; or make some new curtains. Give Feng Shui a try.
Feng Shui is defined as “a system of laws considered to govern spatial arrangement and orientation in relation to the flow of energy, and whose favorable or unfavorable effects are taken into account when siting and designing buildings.” Whether or not you believe in this school of thought, it could be fun to rearrange your environment using the laws of Feng Shui just to freshen things up.
Go shopping in your own closet.
If you’re on your own this weekend and have been meaning to clean out the closet, try this system to make it fun! “Shop” your closet by trying out new combinations of clothing and accessories, put together outfits for upcoming events, and categorize items for easy access. This will help you get organized, get rid of items you don’t wear anymore, and find new combos and outfits you never knew you had.
